Crna (or Black) River with a length of 207 km is the largest right tributary of Vardar River. It springs from the locality “Crna Dupka” (Black Hole) near the village of Zeleznec at an altitude of 760 meters.

From its spring to Buchin village, Crna River flows through Demir Hisar Municipality and then enters Pelagonia - the biggest plain in Macedonia. Exiting from Pelagonia near Skochivir village it enters Mariovo region, into Skochivir canyon, the longest canyon in Macedonia, which is 104 km long.

The famous Chebren Monastery is about 4-5 km downstream of the Crna River from the locality Rapesh Bridge.

Through Mariovo region, Crna River has a character of a fast mountain river. Before the exit of the canyon, a dam of 105 meters high is erected at the place where the Crna River fills Tikves Lake.

Crna River flows into the Vardar near the ancient site Stobi at an elevation of 129 meters.
